Mission Statement
Our mission is to preemptively develop and involve students across Science, Technology, Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, and Statistics disciplines to equip them with the sufficient knowledge and skills to solve complex real-world problems. In addition to the STEM methodology, Artificial Intelligence is added, and Statistics is spun off from Mathematics to embrace the new world of Big Data.
The Journey
STEAMS was founded in the summer of 2014 as a small robotics class in a local learning center and expanded to 8 locations with over 150 students in 2016. Since then, we have evolved to a mainly student-executed organization, operating through schools, clubs, and online mediums. STEAMS has hosted six annual conferences since 2017, partnering with and being sponsored by professional organizations such as IEOM, JMP, AMAT, ASQ,, and ASA. Below are some of the highlights through our 8+ year journey that helped shaped who we are now.
SUMMER 2014
STEAMS was founded by Mason Chen in Milpitas, California and offered robotics classes to a handful of students.
winter 2014
The start of the Google self-driving robotics project, the first of over 100 projects to date.
SUMMER 2015
One student passes the IBM SPSS Analytics Level I exam; the number of passers would rise to 25 in 2016.
FALL 2016
The organization has grown to 8 locations with over 150 students, each hosting a variety of classes from robotics analytics to AP Statistics.
spring 2017
A group of students attend the 2017 IEOM Conference in Morocco, taking 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the oral and poster presentation competition.
Summer 2017
Astonished at the students' successes, IEOM jointly hosts the 2017 STEAMS Conference in Palo Alto, California, with over 100 people present.
